Massachusetts Nurses Foundation Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Massachusetts Nurses Foundation
The Massachusetts Nurses Foundation awards scholarships to assist nurses and other health care professionals who are furthering their education. In addition to financial support, the Foundation advances professional growth through grants, awards and recognition programs, and it helps build a stronger nursing community by promoting participation in union activities and developing members’ leadership abilities.
Eligibility
- Applicant must be the child or grandchild of a Massachusetts Nurses Association (MNA) member who is currently in good standing.
- Applicant must be enrolled in, or accepted to, a program leading to a degree as a Registered Nurse or another Health Care Professional. If the applicant is already a licensed RN, that applicant must also be an MNA member in good standing.
Application requirements (documents you must submit)
1. Proof of enrollment: a letter of acceptance into the educational program. This is REQUIRED.
2. Accreditation: the school or program must be accredited by an appropriate professional accrediting body.
3. Two references:
- One reference from an academic source (faculty member, principal, or guidance counselor).
- One reference from an adult who knows you outside of school (for example: music teacher, employer, neighbor, community leader, etc.).
4. Personal statement: a typewritten, double-spaced narrative on a separate 8½” x 11” page, no longer than 500 words. Address the following in your statement:
- Your career goals.
- If you are pursuing a nursing degree, your philosophy of nursing.
- How the education you seek will help you achieve your goals and contribute to the profession.
- Your current activities and accomplishments (personal and/or professional).
- How your parent’s involvement and activism in the MNA influenced your career choices.
- Why you believe you should be awarded this scholarship.
5. A statement from the parent (the MNA member).

- You may include any unusual or extenuating circumstances that support your application as part of your personal statement or as an additional document.
All listed items are required unless noted as optional. Ensure each element is provided to avoid delays in application review.
