Overview
The Luckyday Scholars Program emphasizes student engagement through shared residential experiences, leadership development, and service to the community.
Who is eligible?
Incoming freshmen who are Mississippi residents and have been admitted to The University of Southern Mississippi may apply. Applicants must hold a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 and an ACT superscore of at least 20.
What qualities are assessed?
Reviewers look for candidates who have demonstrated community involvement, taken rigorous academic coursework, and successfully balanced multiple responsibilities. Selection factors include financial need, volunteer/service record, leadership roles, recommendation letters, and overall alignment with the Luckyday community. Prospective scholars who show a strong work ethic, a sense of social responsibility, academic persistence, a clear intent to complete an undergraduate degree, and an interest in participating in an engaged residential community are strongly encouraged to apply.
Application requirements
Applicants begin by completing the general application in the GO Application System. Once that section is submitted, additional eligible competitive applications will become available within the applicant’s account. A complete Luckyday Scholars application consists of:
- A Counselor Report completed by the applicant’s high school counselor
- A recommendation from an academic reference
- A recommendation from a service supervisor or organization advisor
- A completed FAFSA
- Thoughtful, well-written responses to the essay prompt(s)
- Completion of online interview(s) via the Big Interview platform
How to apply
The GO Application system (used for Freshman and Transfer Designation-Based scholarships, the Luckyday Scholars Program, USM Foundation Scholarships, and Honors College Admission and Achievement Awards) is available at www.usmfoundation.com/go. You must first be admitted to The University of Southern Mississippi and then log into the GO Application using your student ID and SOAR password to begin the application process.
