Walgreens Expressions Challenge
Scholarship Sponsored by Walgreens Expressions Challenge
Introduction
Teens face a wide range of challenges—at home, in school, within their friend groups, and while discovering their identity and place in the world. Expressions invites high school students to channel their thoughts and emotions into creative work that reflects what’s affecting them today.
Who May Enter
Current high school students are encouraged to participate and submit original work that responds to an issue influencing their lives.
Choose a Topic
Participants should reflect on issues that resonate with them and use that as the basis for their submission. Possible themes include (but are not limited to):
- Impact of social media
- Cyberbullying
- Self-esteem
- Mental health
- Gender identity
- Gun violence
- Social justice
- Drug abuse
- Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic
Categories
Submissions are accepted in four creative fields:
- Visual Arts
- Spoken Word
- Creative Writing
- Media Arts
Prizes and Awards
Each category will produce three placement winners, resulting in a total of 12 prize recipients across all categories.
- First place: $2,000
- Second place: $1,750
- Third place: $1,500
People’s Champs
In addition to judged placements, the entries that receive the most public votes will be honored. One People’s Champ is selected per category, and each of these four winners will receive $1,000. Selection is based solely on vote totals.
Teacher Champions
Four educators will also be recognized for their engagement with Expressions. Teachers who arrange a class presentation, support student submissions, and promote the program within their schools are eligible for a $1,000 cash award (four prizes in total).
