Media Fellows Scholarship

Overview
The Washington Media Scholars Foundation offers Media Fellows scholarships to students who combine academic merit with demonstrated financial need and who focus their studies where advertising intersects with public policy. Eligible fields include, but are not limited to: Advertising, Marketing, Communications, Business, Political Science, Strategic Media, and related majors.
Who may apply
Students from any undergraduate class year have received Media Fellows awards in the past; however, juniors and seniors are especially encouraged to apply. Please note that rising freshmen are not eligible. Media Fellowships are one-time awards.
Required application materials
Applicants must submit all of the following:
- Essay (see guidelines below)
- One letter of recommendation
- Current, professionally formatted resume
Essay instructions
- Length and format: 500 words maximum, double-spaced.
- Purpose: Help us learn about you. Address all four of the areas below in your essay:
1. Academic background — Your institution, expected graduation date, major/minor, and relevant campus or extracurricular activities.
2. Financial need — Explain your financial circumstances and describe specifically how this scholarship would assist you.
3. Upcoming coursework — List the courses you plan to take this academic year and explain how they relate to your career plans.
4. Career goals — Describe your professional objectives and how your academic record and experiences position you for success in the media field.
Strong submissions make clear links between academic plans, practical experience, and career aspirations.
Letter of recommendation
Provide one signed letter on official letterhead from either:
- A professor, academic advisor, or other university official; OR
- A mentor or former employer
The writer should be able to speak to your commitment, abilities, and potential for a successful career in the media industry.

Upload a current, professional resume that summarizes your education, experience, activities, and relevant skills.
Selection process
Finalists will be contacted by the Washington Media Scholars Foundation for a phone interview before scholarship awards are announced.
