Lou Manzione Scholarship

Introduction
The Atlantic Amateur Hockey Association (AAHA), the Atlantic Affiliate of USA Hockey, is pleased to present the Daniel Triano Memorial Scholarship to a student-official who intends to pursue education beyond high school and is an active USA Hockey official within the AAHA.
Award
One (1) non-renewable scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to a high school senior who is registered with USA Hockey and currently serves as an on-ice official in the AAHA.
About Daniel Triano
Daniel Triano was a Level 2 official who tragically died in an automobile accident on June 15, 2016, at the age of 17. Born and raised in Kenilworth, NJ, Daniel spent 12 years playing with the New Jersey Devils Youth Club and was a three-year varsity member of the Jonathan Dayton High School ice hockey team. He also gave his time as a junior coach with the New Jersey Dare Devils, a program for players with special needs. Daniel was a devoted son and brother, a loyal teammate, and a friend to many. Known for his compassion, he would want others to treat one another with respect and kindness.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be high school seniors residing in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, or Delaware.
- Be currently registered with USA Hockey.
- Be active on-ice officials within the AAHA.
Selection will be made without regard to race, sex, religion, or financial need. Scholarships are not renewable. All decisions by the Scholarship Committee are final.
Selection Criteria
Applications will be evaluated using the following materials:
- School transcript (including grades, GPA, and class rank)
- Standardized test scores (SAT, ACT, or equivalent)
- A typed essay, 500 words maximum, addressing: "The Value of Officiating Hockey to My Personal Development."
Notification and Acceptance
Award recipients will be notified by email in May using the address provided on the application. Only those chosen to receive a scholarship will be contacted. Each recipient must accept the award in writing by the deadline specified in the notification letter and must provide a copy of the acceptance to the college or school they plan to attend.
Application Procedure
Complete the online application and upload the required attachments. Each file must be labeled with your first and last name and the document type (for example: Jane Doe-Transcript; Jane Doe-Essay). Applications that do not follow these instructions will not be considered. Required uploads:
- Transcript
- Test scores
- Headshot photo (.jpg) — this may be used in the public announcement if selected
- Typed essay
Deadline
All application materials and any letters of recommendation must be submitted by Friday, April 3rd.
