Joye Law Firm Annual Scholarship Program
Scholarship Sponsored by Joye Law Firm
Overview
We award seven scholarships of $2,000 each to South Carolina graduating seniors who intend to enroll at a four-year college or university in the fall. Recipients are chosen based on the originality of their submission plus school involvement, leadership roles, honors and awards, community service, academic achievements, and career-related goals.
In 2021 we added a separate scholarship aimed at students attending historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). That program provides one HBCU student with a college scholarship to assist with their education. Applicants may apply for both scholarships using the same online application.
Eligibility
- Current graduating seniors in South Carolina planning to begin a four-year institution in the fall are eligible for the seven $2,000 awards.
- The HBCU scholarship is available to a student attending a historically Black college or university (see application for specifics).
- You may submit one application to be considered for either or both scholarship opportunities.
How to apply
Submit all of the following items through the online application:
1. A current high school transcript.
2. A bullet-point list of extracurricular activities and/or community involvement.
3. A creative entry responding to one of these prompts:
- As a graduating senior, what advice would you give your younger self (and incoming freshmen) about handling peer pressure and avoiding risky behaviors such as drunk driving and texting while driving?
- Drunk driving accidents claim over 10,000 lives each year. Demonstrate or describe how drunk driving affects your state, your community, and/or you personally.
- If you are applying for the HBCU scholarship, you may choose either of the prompts above or instead submit a 600-word essay on: “Why attending a historically Black college or university is important to me.”
4. A nomination of a favorite teacher who has inspired your creativity (for consideration for a teacher prize).
5. A current photograph suitable for publication.
6. A completed downloadable version of the application form (uploaded with your submission).
Creative entry formats and file types
Creative submissions can take many forms — for example, an essay, video, infographic, song, poem, etc. Uploaded files must be in one of the following formats: pdf, doc, jpg, png, mv4, avi, wav, mp3.
