National Board Technical Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors
Overview
The National Board Technical Scholarship supports students pursuing engineering and STEM-related careers that relate to the design, inspection, construction, and operation of boilers and pressure vessels.
Who is eligible
To qualify for consideration, applicants must meet all of the following:
- Be accepted to or currently enrolled full-time at a trade school, technical college, or university located in the United States or Canada.
- Be majoring in mechanical, manufacturing, electrical, industrial, welding, or chemical engineering, or in another engineering-related field deemed acceptable by the selection committee.
- Be a citizen of the United States or Canada.
- Be the child, stepchild, grandchild, or great-grandchild of a current or former National Board member, a National Board Commissioned Inspector, or a full-time National Board employee (living or deceased). The referenced National Board affiliate must have completed at least one year of service.
- Have never received a National Board Technical Scholarship in a prior year.
Important dates and selection
- The 2026 application window opens on September 1, 2025.
- Applications must be submitted or postmarked by February 28, 2026.
- Awards are chosen competitively by the National Board based on the program criteria. Successful applicants will be notified by March 31, 2026.
Application requirements and instructions
Please follow these steps and include all requested materials:
1. Complete the application in full and read all instructions carefully.
2. Sign the final page of the application.
3. Submit a personal statement (500–750 words) describing how your academic background, extracurricular involvement, and work or internship experiences have influenced your educational and career objectives, and explaining why you should be selected for this scholarship.
4. Provide two (2) letters of recommendation from instructors or other school officials, printed on official school letterhead.
5. Include an official transcript on school letterhead from your current institution (college, university, trade school) or from your high school, as applicable.
6. If you are a high school student, include an official college acceptance letter showing your anticipated start date.
7. You may apply online OR complete the printable application and submit it along with your personal statement, recommendation letters, transcript, and any other required information by email or postal mail to the National Board.
Be sure all documents are legible and submitted before the February 28, 2026 deadline.
